Our Annual New Jersey Picnic - This Saturday, September 16!

On September 16, our New Jersey committee will be hosting its annual picnic at Carpenter's Grove Park in Fort Lee, New Jersey, right on the Hudson River, with a beautiful view of New York and the George Washington Bridge. Join us and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with fellow KALAGNY members and eat Korean BBQ.  Families and children are welcome!

KALAGNY cordially invites you to join us for our annual Flushing / Long Island Dinner on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 7:00- 9:00 p.m.  This year, we'll meet at Butcher’s Cut BBQ (146-13 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, Queens), located on Northern Boulevard between 147th and 146th Streets, across from Burger King. 


Lot parking is available behind the restaurant, which is also a 9 minute walk from the Murray Hill stop on the Port Washington Line (you must be in one of the last 4 cars on the train).


The annual dinner is complimentary for KALAGNY dues-paid members; $40 for non-members.  Space is strictly limited to 40 guests, with priority given to dues-paid members.  Please RSVP by clicking here


KALAGNY at AABANY’s Fall Conference – September 23, 2017


The Asian American Bar Association of New York’s 8th Annual Fall Conference will take place on September 23, 2017 at Fordham Law School.


This year, KALAGNY President Karen Kim is chairing a panel discussion among leading Asian Pacific American women in the public sector in New York.  The discussion will be moderated by KALAGNY’s Executive VP, EJ Thorsen, and the panelists will include the Honorable Judy H. Kim, a member of KALAGNY’s Board of Governors.


KALAGNY will also host a panel, chaired by our member James Y. Lee, that will examine the wide-ranging effects of the Supreme Court’s holdings on jurisdictional issues in Bristol-Myers Squibb v. Superior Court of California.  The panelists will include the general counsel of Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.

Mentorship Opportunity!

The MinKwon Center for Community Action (www.minkwon.org) is looking for attorneys with experience in immigration, employment, or housing law to be part of its Legal Mentorship Network.  Success in the legal field is often attributed to having the right mentors at the right time, and the mentorship network is an excellent opportunity to continue passing this along while giving back to the community.

Womankind (formerly the New York Asian Women’s Center) helps individuals overcome domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking by providing a safe haven through multilingual support programs and shelter services, assisting clients with immigration relief to break the power and control of their abusers and empowering them to govern their own lives.


Womankind’s legal department seeks interns to work with domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking survivors in related areas of immigration law.  More information on the internship can be found here (pdf).  Applicants should email their resume and cover letter to the legal services manager, Yanfei Shen, at yshen@iamwk.org.  Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
