KALAGNY & IAKL Joint Mixer on August 8th

It’s that time of the year again - get ready for some networking and fun!  KALAGNY and IAKL will be hosting another joint mixer on August 8th (location TBA).  The mixer is a great opportunity for everyone to mingle, get to know more about both organizations, make new contacts, and all in all have a great time!  

New Jersey Committee’s Summer Happy Hour – August 10, 2017

Our New Jersey Committee will be hosting a summer happy hour on Thursday, August 10!  Join us for a drink and enjoy the skyline views at PIER 115 Bar & Grill (115 River Rd, Edgewater, NJ 07020) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Complimentary beer and wine will be served for the first hour.

Our monthly pro bono clinics are held in Manhattan and Bayside, Queens on the first Tuesday of every month, from 7-9 PM.  The next clinics will take place on September 5, 2017.  Please spread the word to your family, friends and neighbors in need of legal counsel.

KALAGNY'S Annual New Jersey Picnic – September 16, 2017

Our New Jersey Committee will host its annual picnic on Saturday, September 16 (12:00 PM) at Carpenter's Grove Park in Fort Lee, New Jersey (directions).  Join us and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with fellow KALAGNY members and eat Korean BBQ right on the Hudson River with a beautiful view of New York and the George Washington Bridge.  Families and children are welcome!

ABA’s “CLE in the City”- August 10-11

As part of its Annual Meeting programs, the ABA is offering a “CLE in the City” Series, which will offer CLE programs in various areas of legal practice.  Each program will include 1.5 hours of CLE credit in the practice area and a lunch speaker.  The programs will be held at prominent law firms throughout the city and other select locations.  Tickets are $25 per program and allow program participants to purchase a $20 ticket to a special networking reception.

Save the Date for the NAPABA Northeast Regional Conferencehosted by APABA-PA, in Philadelphia, PA.  More details to come.  

Registration is now open for NAPABA's Northeast Regional Conference and APABA-PA's 33rd Anniversary Annual Banquet, hosted by APABA-PA in Philadelphia, PA.  You can RSVP here.

KOTRA New York IP-DESK Presents IP Dispute Legal Fee Subsidy Program

Any Korean company with a business registration number in Korea, which incurs legal fees for any issues pertaining to intellectual property disputes can apply for this program. KOTRA will subsidize 50% of the company's legal fees for up to $10,000.

Types of issues/work covered under the program: drafting of an infringement memo, a cease and desist letter response to allegations of infringement, intellectual property dispute consultation, freedom to operate memo, and an opinion memo and maintenance monitoring.

Any law firm / private practice with Korean companies as clients (small and medium size only, not conglomerates) should encourage those clients to apply to the program for legal fees incurred relating to an intellectual property dispute.  Contact KOTRA for more information. 

Amici Legal Podcast Series 

The New York State Unified Court System has launched the “Amici” podcast, a series created to share with the legal community and the public at large information about the courts, the legal profession and the criminal justice system.

Podcasts currently available include an interview with William Leahy, Director of the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services, and a conversation regarding the Uniform Bar Exam with Diane Bosse, Chair of the New York State Board of Law Examiners. Both audio and a written transcript of each podcast are available.
